It's okay. I know it's a lot. While normally I'd love to dig into a scoop, this is sort of a different matter entirely.

I think it makes it sound a lot more grim that way--I'm sorry about that. It's not that. Everything turned out okay for us in the end.

[Well like. Mostly. Everyone but him. But that's how he wanted it.]

I guess I'm still processing everything that happened after all. It was a pretty crazy year.

Well... it's not like it was constant Shadow fighting all the time for the whole year.

Shadow fighting in between studying for exams? Isn't that rougher?

... Maybe sometimes it was a little tough... My senpai wouldn't have gone easy on us if we'd failed our exams.

Then you have a good senpai! I can understand the importance of fighting Shadows and demons, but keeping on top of your schoolwork's important in its own way.

You're a good kid. What's your favorite subject?

Well...social studies, I guess. Especially history.

[He likes learning about people...]

What was your favorite subject in school? Now I'm curious.

Mine? I was really into Literature... but I also liked History a lot.

Did you always know you wanted to be a reporter...?

[scooptimistic]

Not always. I think it was probably after I lost my dad.

[ ... Yeah. Well, it's kind of hard to say that she wanted to be a journalist out of spite at first. ]

... He was a journalist?

[scooptimistic]

Yeah, he was. One of the ones who'd go out into warzones and other dangerous situations, actually.

... I'm sorry, Maya-san, but...

What happened to him? If you don't mind me asking. You don't have to answer.

He was killed when he left the country to report on a war.

[ Well. She doesn't mind telling him at this point. It doesn't change anything, does it? ]

I'm sorry, Maya-san. That...must have been really hard.

But you...decided to follow in his footsteps anyway.

... It's probably not anything as noble as you might be thinking.

At the time, I thought I should have tried harder to stop him. Or I shouldn't have smiled like he asked me to.

I ended up aiming to become a journalist because I wanted to balance my job and having a family better than he did. To prove that it was possible.

[messianic]

[Minato's quiet for a long moment... and then he nods.]

But it's something you love, right? So maybe... maybe it all worked out for the better, no matter what your motivations for pursuing it were.
