[ Mordred doesn't spend a huge amount of time in their shared space — she's too restless, the type to go out looking for a fight with whatever (or whoever) will give her one. Even so, it's impossible not to fall into a sort of easy comradeship with Maya when she does show up to eat, or sleep, or poke at something on the network. She reminds Mordred of Gareth, all sunshine and positivity... and, like with Gareth, she never really notices how much of a difference that makes until it's gone.
She's not the most sensitive of souls, with or without her usual resentment, but she's not heartless, either. After a while of things seeming off, she finally speaks up the next time they're both home, arms crossed over her chest and an expression that says she's not leaving without an answer. ]
Hey. What's wrong with you? [ Subtle. But there's faint concern in her voice, even if she'd deny it. ] You've barely smiled in days. It's weird.

[ She frowns when Maya apologizes. There's nothing to apologize for, but she gets the feeling saying that wouldn't help, so she lets it go in favour of everything else. ]
... That's no good. Someone like you shouldn't be feeling that way.
[ It'd be different if it was her, or someone who didn't have so much goodwill to give in the first place, but she can't just stand by and watch this. After a moment, Mordred reaches out to grab Maya by the wrist; gripping firmly enough that she can't just pull away. ]
Come with me. I don't care if you're busy or not. [ She only lost her resentment, not her rudeness. ] We're going to go do something fun, right now.

Fun means fun, obviously! And it's a surprise!
[ ... Yeah, she hasn't thought that far ahead. The only time she truly ever had "fun" was with Kairi, for a few short days in the middle of a war. How is she supposed to help someone else?
At least she's stubborn enough to try, even if it means dragging Maya all the way across town. ]
You said you were a reporter, right? So let's find something to report on. Or make something.

Who cares? [ It's dismissive, but not in a rude way. ] I wanna hear it. And if a king wishes to hear something, then everyone else should, too.
[ Not that she's a king... yet. But she still has her arrogance. Realizing she's still physically dragging Maya after her, she finally releases her wrist with a tiny frown. ]
... Sorry. That was a little forceful of me. I just couldn't stand the idea of you moping around by yourself.

[ he waited a little while, just to see if Minato would come back. He hasn't yet. And just like that, he's going through exactly what he'd gone through hardly a month ago - living in denial of the obvious and dreadful truth, and hoping he'll find an answer that's better. ]
Dear Maya,
Have you seen Minato as of late? It has been round a week since I saw him last and I am becoming concerned.
Your friend,
Lupin

[ Perhaps it's good that she's so straightforward about it; she leaves no room for doubt or persuasion. But maybe it's worse, too - Lupin thrives on hopes and wishes, and the bluntness of her answer shoots them right out from under him like a bullet through a bird's wings. His response is slow in coming. ]
Then I have failed him very cruelly
Then I have failed him very cruelly
True; I know him very well and so know that you are correct; still the matter remains that I told him that I would save him from his Fate only weeks before this occurred, and now I am left hoping that the oft-hopeful Thought that those who disappear return to their Homes is in fact false, and that he is kept somewhere alive where I may rescue him.
Did he tell you that he was dead, Maya?

that depends
are you taking responsibility when you make me cry?

how dependable
i'll be there in a bit
[But she does bring her own handkerchief, tucked away secretly in a pocket because she's determined not to need it.]

[ You know what? This quest seems relatively harmless, they have to admit, especially when juxtaposed to "kill someone." If they have to choose a quest to do so they can do their part in keeping the town peace, they'll choose this one - and Maya's around their size. Sort of. It's fine, probably.
That's how they've found themself shrugging on her jacket while under her roof, watching her carefully to make sure she finishes putting on their white uniform correctly. ]
You seriously better not mess those up.

[ press f for maya's boobies ]
Well, I don't have those "boob" things...
[ What does she expect!! Granted, that's why her clothes are sort of hanging off of them, too, but it's better for it to be too big than too small. ]
It should stretch enough. [ a beat. ] It doesn't rip that easily. I was just saying.

[ so they have heard... ]
Okay, fine. I guess you're meant to wear my shoes, too.... I don't know if they'll fit.
[ Pointed glance towards the death heels set off to the side, and then towards her own shoes that they're meant to step into (literally, this time). ]
